Our Story

Hi! I’m Grishma, the founder and one-woman army behind SassyCut.

SassyCut was born from a simple frustration that many of us share: I could never find a bra that fits.

Growing up, I was lucky. My mom sewed, so I was spoiled with bespoke garments and developed a deep appreciation for a perfect fit. But bras were always a ‘sore point.’ They never fit right. I knew enough about fitting to understand my measurements, but the ‘right size’ for me simply didn't exist in any store.

Like many of us frustrated with ill fitting bras, I too wondered about starting a bra company from time to time. But with no experience, I never pursued it. Eventually, my frustration peaked (or maybe my crazy took over), and I decided to find a real solution.

Having experienced firsthand the vast difference between bespoke garments vs store bought ready to wear, I wanted to build a company that offered ‘made-to-measure bras,’ not ‘sizes.’ I naively assumed the technology to automatically generate made-to-measure patterns must already exist. I searched for months, convinced I was just looking in the wrong place. How could something this obvious not exist?

While searching, I also dove into the home bra-making world to at the very least make one for myself. I learned to sew, and found many online patterns for bras. Like ready-to-wear, they are based on standard sizes. But unlike store-bought bras, you can alter the pattern to your measurements before sewing. That felt like a wonderful option and gave me a way forward.

However, I soon discovered that altering a bra pattern is a grueling process. In online bra-making communities, I saw posts from women who, like me, were sewing simply because no ready-made bra fit them. They would modify, sew, test the fit, identify issues, modify the pattern again, sew, and repeat. Some were on their second or third version, but many were on their 11th or even 17th attempt to get the fit right. That was both scary and impressive.

I was amazed and inspired by the perseverance of the folks and it was also the final piece of evidence. The technology I was looking for, truly automated, made-to-measure patterns, simply didn't exist. But it absolutely should. I had also never been more sure that it was desperately needed.

That was the turning point. If no one else was going to build it, I would. Before I knew it, I had tumbled down the rabbit hole of bra making and pattern technology. It was a world I knew nothing about, but one I was determined to figure out.

Today, a few years down the road, as I write this, I’m thrilled that our very first pattern, ‘Calliope,’ is ready. As far as I know (and please correct me if I'm mistaken!), Calliope is the first automatically generated, made-to-measure underwired bra pattern in the world. I still find that hard to digest!

This is just the beginning. We dream of a future without sizes. A future where you never have to wonder if that dress or bra you love is available in 'your size'—because it's simply available made to measure for you. It might sound crazy today, but SassyCut is our first small, sassy step in that direction.

Welcome to the revolution.
